- ➤ Roberts and Roberts Law Firm is offering free rides home in 14 East Texas counties from Dec. 5 until Jan. 1 to help reduce impaired driving during the busy holiday season. Longview residents can call (903) 333-RIDE to connect with a rideshare partner and get home safely. Kilgore News Herald
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, Dec. 30, Longview awarded $385,000 in grants to eight arts organizations funded by hotel occupancy taxes that support local culture and tourism. The awards will fund 34 programs – including America’s 250th birthday events scheduled into 2026 – at venues like the Gregg County Historical Museum and Longview Symphony League. - ➤ Summit Volleyball Club will host the East Texas Series #1 Volleyball Tournament at Maude Cobb Convention Center on Jan. 17-18, 2026. City of Longview
- ➤ The annual Bayou Bowl — a showcase of local football talent — pits the East Texas Coaches Association against the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association and will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barbers Hill Stadium in Mont Belvieu. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ East Texas sports had big moments in 2025 as Longview High coach John King battled mouth cancer and returned to lead playoff wins — his upcoming Hall of Honor induction marks a major milestone. - ➤ Kilgore Bulldogs dominated the Hawkins Holiday Hoops Classic by winning four games on Monday and Tuesday, and the team, now 4-4 on the season, will face Spring Hill for District 16-4A play Friday at home at 4 p.m. Kilgore News Herald
