COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Longview residents can ring in the New Year at Cargo’s New Year’s Eve concert on Dec. 31 featuring Ryan Dougherty, Taylor Tumlinson and Neal McCoy with a complimentary champagne toast for guests aged 21 and older.  KETK

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spectrum announced its fiber broadband expansion in Gregg County to bring Internet, mobile, TV and voice services to over 3,100 homes and businesses, including those in Gladewater, Kilgore, Longview and White Oak. The upgrade is part of a multi-year plan to boost rural connectivity.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Chi-Mac Chicken will open after Christmas at Brookwood Village (1442 McCann Road) with Korean fried chicken and a bar, while Braum’s hosts a grand opening Jan. 5-11 at its second store. New apartments, The Village Lofts and Judson Lofts, will finish by January and lease by April.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Whitehouse ISD announced that Brett Gilchrist will become the new head football coach starting Jan. 5. He was the offensive coordinator at Lone Star High School in Frisco and helped lead the team to a state championship appearance, with a focus on leadership & community service.  KETK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The library and Broughton Branch Library will be closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for the New Year holiday (drop-off boxes at the main branch remain open) and will reopen Jan. 2.  City of Longview

HEALTH NEWS

  • Retired nurses in Longview urge healthcare workers to share support during the busy holiday season — they recommend regular huddles, open talks, and mental health visits to ease stress and avoid burnout.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dallas Cowboys linebacker (Arp native) DeMarvion Overshown suffered a concussion during Sunday's game and is ruled out for Thursday's matchup, leaving his play uncertain for the finale against the Giants.  KETK
  • LeTourneau men’s hoops won 94-82 over Lewis and Clark at Solheim Arena on Saturday afternoon. Jackson Mayes led with over 20 points and the YellowJackets will resume conference play at Centenary on Jan. 2 at 5:30 p.m.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore girls basketball won 52-42 over Gilmer in District 16-4A play on Saturday as Serenity Oliver scored eight points and Makayla Jackson grabbed 12 rebounds. The team is 9-8 this season and will host Spring Hill on Jan. 2.  Kilgore News Herald
