COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Teen Hangout will offer a free event on Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. where teens (ages 13-17) build PopTart gingerbread houses and enjoy a hot cocoa bar while chatting about books, games, movies and pop culture. The ASPIRE Mentor Program hosts the event.  City of Longview

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • TPWD began its Rainbow Trout release program on Dec. 1 and will continue through March, stocking city park ponds, state parks, and the Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake Dam to offer local anglers an easy fishing experience (no state park license needed for youths).  Longview News-Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nurse Megan Coats at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd in Longview was honored with the Daisy Award for her versatile care in the NICU, labor and delivery, and postpartum units. The recognition (awarded for excellence in patient care) reflects her exceptional commitment (and supportive role) for colleagues and patients.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Lobo Haynes King, who earned ACC Player of the Year at Georgia Tech, is a semifinalist for the 13th Annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Finalists will be selected on Dec. 9 and the winner honored at a banquet in Tyler on Jan. 21.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Overton Mustangs won 65-26 over Tyler High JV in the opening game of the Harold Stanger Holiday Tournament on Thursday night. Rylan Holleman led with 18 points (Christian Hall added 12) as the team prepared for pool play.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Host team Pine Tree kept an eight-point lead to beat White Oak 65-29 at the Regen Stiles Tournament at Pirate Center on Friday, and the Lady Pirates will face Texas High today at 12:30 p.m. in Championship Bracket play.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Longview Lady Lobos won 59-52 in overtime against Martin’s Mill on Friday at Lobo Coliseum, keeping an unbeaten 11-0 record. Maya Ward’s clutch play — including a tying layup and perfect free throws — helped secure the win.  Longview News-Journal
  • Longview junior linebacker Lawson Tubb was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year when District 10-6A released its All-District Football Team, finishing with 130 tackles and standout games this season.  Longview News-Journal
  • Spring Hill senior Josh Otujor earned first-team all-district honors on both sides of the ball when coaches released the District 7-4A Division II team + he joined seven teammates recognized for their standout play during the season.  Longview News-Journal
