COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families gathered at the Gregg County Courthouse Tuesday night for the annual Tree of Angels ceremony, where they hung ornaments on a decorated tree to honor loved ones and share prayers for healing. The tradition, started in 1991, provides a space for community remembrance.  Longview News-Journal
  • Due to forecasted rain, the Longview AMBUCS Christmas Parade is postponed to Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. and will feature marching bands, floats, and festive characters along Whaley & Methvin streets.  Longview News-Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A bystander rescued an elderly woman from a house fire on Tuesday in Hallsville as fire crews from Longview and West Harrison arrived shortly after; both were taken to a hospital for evaluation.  KETK

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Spring Hill branch of a former Dairy Queen now houses Tango Mango, a new Chinese restaurant owned by the Tang brothers that serves rice bowls, shaved ice, and teas. Dreaming Peddler will reopen its larger store on Dec. 5 and 6 with a pirate theme seating area + live music.  Longview News-Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Danville Farm in Kilgore will close at the end of this week after more than 40 years of providing Christmas trees to East Texas families; the Robinson family — who began the tradition in the 1980s — encourages locals to visit for final purchases.  KETK
  • Christus Health hosted its annual Christmas tree lighting on Wednesday evening in Tyler at Bradley-Thompson Tower Courtyard (with free hot chocolate and a children’s choir) and in Longview outside Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center where community members enjoyed festive treats and photos with Santa.  KETK
  • LeTourneau University’s Fine Arts Department performed a Christmas concert Wednesday night at the S.E. Belcher Chapel and Performing Arts Center in Longview. Choirs from the university and the Studio Treble from Kilgore, along with a men’s quartet and local pianists, added warmth to the festive evening.  KETK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Longview ISD Foundation awarded six academic field trip grants totaling $33,177 to teachers Tuesday at five schools, supporting hands-on trips for elementary and middle school students.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pine Tree’s annual Regen Stiles Basketball Tournament kicks off today with 108 games spread across five local gymnasiums, starting at 8 a.m. at Pirate Center’s auxiliary gym plus continuing on Friday and leading to championship games on Saturday.  Longview News-Journal
  • LETU men's and women's basketball teams played close games at Solheim Arena on R.G. Night — the men's squad won 63-62 with a late three from Connor Miller while the women's team fell 55-50 after a final three-pointer gave Centenary the win.  Longview News-Journal
