- ➤ The holiday season starts today as Heritage Plaza in downtown Longview hosts the lighting of its 23.5-foot community Christmas tree from 4 to 7 p.m. The event features pictures with Santa plus music, carriage rides, a petting zoo, food trucks and vendors, with some activities charging a fee. - ➤ Longview residents will see stable turkey prices for Thanksgiving meals even though wholesale costs rose 70% across Texas. Grocers such as Brookshire’s and Greenberg Smoked Turkeys managed price stability by securing early contracts—helping shoppers pay nearly the same as last year. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ TxDOT warns drivers to slow down and yield to crash responders this week after three work zone fatalities were reported in the Tyler District covering eight counties. TxDOT reminds drivers that state law requires them to move over a lane or slow to 20 mph when passing road workers—failure to do so may result in fines up to $1,200 or jail if a responder is injured. - ➤ The Texas Education Agency reported last week that 81% of public school systems earned A ratings for their financial practices while a new federal ban will limit THC in nearly all hemp products starting next year. Gov. Abbott plans to eliminate local school property taxes as state agencies work on improving public transit and easing kinship foster family rules in response to Texas’ expected growth. - ➤ In a Class 3A playoff game at Maverick Stadium, the Arp Tigers edged the Daingerfield Tigers 29-28 in overtime — Josh Smith rushed for 200 yards, scored two touchdowns and made a key 2-point conversion — to secure the win. The victory improved Arp’s record to 11-1 while Daingerfield ended its season at 8-4. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Union Hill beat Chester 76-30 on Friday when the six-man mercy rule ended the game with 5:30 remaining. The Bulldogs built a 46-24 lead by halftime and E.J. Mowery rushed for 238 yards and six touchdowns — helping the team advance to the playoffs as Chester ended the season at 10-2. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Kilgore romped past Stafford 42-0 on Friday at Yates Stadium to advance to the third round of the playoffs— the Bulldogs (11-1) will face Bridge City next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Randall Reed Stadium in New Caney. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The Kilgore College Rangers beat the Cedar Valley Suns 109 to 64 Saturday at Masters Gymnasium with bench players Dekwon Brown, Elijah Herron and Kendall Mitchell adding 45 points to move the team to a 7 to 1 overall record—They will open Region XIV Conference play on Dec. 3 in Athens against Trinity Valley and host Lamar State-Port Arthur on Dec. 6. - ➤ In HENDERSON on November 22nd, San Augustine beat Waskom 36-24 in a foggy playoff game—Montez Thompson rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns. The win sends the Wolves to the regional semifinals against Beckville. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ On Friday, the Pine Tree Pirates overcame a 21-0 deficit to defeat previously unbeaten Houston Yates 35 & 28 at Driskell Stadium. They advanced to the third round and will face Ford Bend Crawford next week & more details will follow. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Carlisle defeated Alvord 41-23 in the Class 2A-DI championship game Friday night in a contest marked by big plays—head coach Clay Baker praised his team’s strong effort and momentum swings. The Indians will face Hamilton in the Region 2 semi-final at 3 p.m. Friday at Corsicana High School. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ In a Class 3A playoff game in Kaufman, Mason Landers sealed Grandview's 55-42 win over Gladewater with a 1-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter on November 22nd; Gladewater ended the season 10-2 while Grandview advanced with a 10-2 record. Longview News-Journal
