- ➤ The City of Longview will host its Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Drop-Off and the Goudarzi & Young’s 7th Annual Turkey Giveaway on November 24 at the Longview Convention Complex—more than 2,200 families have applied for the food drive. Attendees are asked to follow traffic directions to help both events run safely and efficiently. City of Longview
- ➤ Goudarzi & Young will host its seventh annual turkey giveaway on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, giving free turkeys to families in need at the Maude Cobb Convention Center and Gilmer Elementary School. The law firm supports local residents by helping them secure a Thanksgiving meal. KETK

- ➤ Local business owners and city officials say that shopping locally boosts the economy and creates jobs by keeping money in the community—holiday markets on Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 are planned to support small businesses. Longview News-Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alto Independent School District is hiring a new head football coach + athletic director, with the position set to open on Jan. 5 and requirements including five years of teaching and coaching experience, a bachelor’s degree, and a valid Texas teaching certificate. Current coach Brock Grigsby may be reassigned or leave the district. KETK
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hunters in East Texas must use their doe tags soon because gun season has been underway for nearly one month and the deadline is November 30 at sunset - those with Managed Land Deer Permits follow different dates and rules. Archery season started on October 1, so all hunters should check local county regulations before taking a doe. Longview News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Debra Christian donated 63.5 acres near Hallsville for the East Texas State Veterans Cemetery, the region’s first, and the project has $16 million in federal funds. Harrison County Judge Chad Sims said bidding for construction will begin Oct. 1, 2026 — with the work expected to start moving forward soon. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The Longview Fire Department announced it achieved a preliminary ISO rating of Class 01/1X, a top rating held by less than 1% of fire departments nationwide—placing Longview among only 74 in the state. The new rating may lower property insurance premiums for properties within 5 road miles of a fire station and will be finalized in early 2026. City of Longview
- ➤ Longview sanitation customers will get a $2.05 rebate on their utility bills for the year-long pause in recycling services after the city stopped recycling when its facility burned down. The service was restored this past summer with a new facility in Kilgore — a change that also lowered material contamination by separating trash and recycling pickup days. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Elysian Fields Yellowjackets beat the Garrison Bulldogs 55-54 in overtime after weather delays slowed the game—this win earned them a spot in the third round of the playoffs. The team led by Brandon ‘NuNu’ Kennedy will face either Honey Grove or Joaquin in the regional quarterfinals next Friday. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Kilgore senior Giselle Webster earned the Most Valuable Blocker award and six other Lady Bulldogs received All-District honors in the 16-4A All-District volleyball awards for the 2025 season.
