- ➤ Expert Sperry said a yellowing red oak is likely a misidentified pin oak with fatal iron deficiency and should be replaced when planted in alkaline soil — a common mix-up in our area. He also provided advice on uneven waxleaf ligustrum, pecan scab, dry zoysia lawns, and small-fruited pineapple plants. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Tyler Junior College will put on its 37th annual Nutcracker ballet this December at Wise Auditorium—featuring more than 200 dancers and live music to boost holiday spirit. Director Carolyn Hanna said the community show will celebrate family traditions by including a rotating role for Mother Ginger and uniting East Texas audiences. Longview News-Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Longview City Council approved an incentive package for Ninth Avenue Foods’ planned $212M dairy facility in the North Business Park that will produce 80 million cartons of milk annually and create 150 full-time jobs. The package includes a 75% property tax rebate over 10 years — LEDCO will also provide 44 acres and a $1M cash grant, with production expected to start in about two years. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Longview honored 10 past and present police chiefs Friday at the police department—officials unveiled portraits that were collected over many years to celebrate the service of the city's leaders. The portraits will be displayed in the executive wing as part of the department's history. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ The Overton Mustangs won a 49-20 bi-district championship on Thursday as Rylan Holleman set a school record with five touchdowns and 181 rushing yards—his all-around play boosted the team’s offense and defense.
