COMMUNITY NEWS

  • One Love Longview, a nonprofit helping the homeless, is asking for donations of winter necessities. They ran out of sleeping bags & need larger gloves, men's socks, jackets, coats and hoodies, with items accepted at Elite Repeats on Gilmer Road from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  KETK

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today through Sunday, Theatre Longview will perform A Streetcar Named Desire at the Community Center — a production set in 1940s New Orleans that shows the story of a fragile Southern belle and the tensions in her sister's home; a free opening night reception with local refreshments starts at 6:30 p.m. today.  Longview News-Journal
  • Peppermint Land will take place at Longview Exhibit Center on December 6—featuring local entrepreneurs, product vendors, fashion, gift ideas, and home goods—designed to bring holiday cheer to visitors.  City of Longview

HEALTH NEWS

  • Christus Health’s Flight for Life is celebrating 40 years of flying East Texas patients to critical care. The air service uses four helicopters to cover a 150-mile radius and treats about 1,500 patients yearly (including cases from motor vehicle and farm accidents, strokes and heart attacks) to start critical care early.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tonight, high school football playoffs will kick off across the region with matchups such as Carthage vs. Pittsburg at Eagle Stadium in Lindale and Daingerfield vs. Harmony at Red Raider Stadium in Winnsboro. Winners will move on to face next week’s opponents—each game playing a key role in the playoff races.  Longview News-Journal
  • Longview’s Bethany Baltes, Tatum’s Kamdyn Scott and Elysian Fields’ Cara Sims signed national letters of intent yesterday to play college basketball, volleyball and track and field, respectively. Four other New Diana athletes also signed agreements for softball and pole vault—boosting local talent for the next level.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Kilgore College Rangers remained unbeaten at 4 to 0 on Monday when Antoine Shannon scored 18 points and Josh Olutayo grabbed 15 rebounds in a 69 to 57 win over Southern University-Shreveport at Masters Gymnasium—they led 35 to 26 at halftime—and they will face Temple on Wednesday before hosting McLennan Saturday at 2 p.m.  Kilgore News Herald
