COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, November 10, the Parkview on Hollybrook senior living facility held its annual Veterans Day program to honor veterans with U.S. Air Force veteran Jack Lanier carrying the American flag and speaking on the power of service — the event featured patriotic music and the presentation of pins and certificates to veterans living at the facility.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Veterans Day, local organizations across East Texas provided veterans with mental health services, job training, counseling and transportation support. Offices in counties such as Smith, Gregg, Rusk, Panola, Harrison and Upshur—as well as CampV and the East Texas Veterans Resource Center—helped veterans enroll in benefits and access critical services.  Longview News-Journal
  • Five notable Longview residents were honored in the city's third Walk of Honor ceremony on Saturday at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts—family and friends celebrated Dr. Peggy and Howard Coghlan, David C.   • This evening, residents in Longview, Tyler, and nearby towns observed the northern lights across East Texas — with local photographers sharing photos of the rare display. The striking event lights up the night sky and captures attention throughout the region.  KETK

  • Local Air Force veteran Colonel Junior Tilley was honored on Tuesday for over 30 years of service during a Veterans Day event in Tyler—Smith County Judge Neal Franklin and U.S. Rep. Nathanial Moran attended to thank veterans for their dedication.  KETK
  • ETCOG will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new $3.3 million GoBus Maintenance Facility on November 13th at 2 p.m., behind its Headquarters at 3800 Stone Road in Kilgore—open to the public and set to improve in-house repairs and service safety across the region.  Kilgore News Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Week 11, Longview’s Johnny Hamilton and New Diana’s DeJuan Johnson earned Offensive Player of the Week honors while Marshall’s DaVaughn Tucker was named Defensive Player of the Week after he led a strong 49—7 win with seven tackles and four sacks. Hamilton’s team, holding a 6—4 record, will enter the playoffs when they face Rowlett on Friday at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.  Longview News-Journal
  • Week 11 football saw high school teams posting strong stats; in Longview, quarterback Johnny Hamilton (15-of-22 for 228 yards and five touchdowns) led the Lobos to a win over Royse City. Other teams from Kilgore, Overton, and nearby towns also shined (with standout performances in running, passing, and defense) as the season heated up.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Spring Hill’s Lady Panthers earned their first state semifinal berth with their 40th win over top-ranked Aubrey by winning four sets at Commerce High School on Tuesday. They will face Eagle Mountain at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center to compete for a chance at the state championship in Garland.  Longview News-Journal
  • LETU soccer players earned SCAC honors as freshman goalkeeper Kinsey Fulks was named First-Year Player of the Year while junior Chanel Kemball-Cook made the All-SCAC second team; Clarissa Martinez, Sarah Wyatt, and Lana Whiteman received honorable mentions and Reagan Parks was named to the All-Freshman team. The conference announced the awards on Thursday after a vote by women’s soccer coaches and sports information directors *confirming the results* and the YellowJackets finished the season with an 8-7-2 record.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore College Rangers remained unbeaten with a 69-57 win over Southern University-Shreveport on Monday at Masters Gymnasium, as Antoine Shannon scored 18 points and Josh Olutayo grabbed 15 rebounds—helping the team lead 35-26 at halftime. The team will visit Temple today and host McLennan on Saturday as it continues its 4-0 run.  Longview News-Journal
