COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Longview Too AMBUCS hosted its annual Special Needs Night at Carmela’s Magical Santa Land last week for people with disabilities and mobility issues. The event offered a walk or drive among millions of lights, hot cookies and chocolate, and gave away two custom Amtrykes—showing its commitment to supporting special needs community members.  Longview News-Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Braum’s opened its new Longview location at 3069 N. Eastman Road with customers arriving at 6 a.m. Monday—now the store will host a Grand Opening Celebration Week from November 17 through November 23 with scratch-to-win prizes and a free scoop offer for children on November 22 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.  KETK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday morning, Kilgore College honored military service members in a ceremony led by Dr. Philip Parnell— a U.S. Air Force veteran who now serves as Vice President of Student Engagement. The event awarded Sergeant Daniel Matthews the Veterans Hero Award and also recognized Sergeant Randy Terry, with speakers reminding everyone that freedom comes at a cost.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • ET High School playoff pairings have been announced for several divisions with games set for Friday and Saturday—Longview faces Rowlett at Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium at 7 p.m.—and additional matchups are scheduled at venues in Cedar Park, Houston, and beyond.  Longview News-Journal
  • The LeTourneau volleyball team swept Centenary and Rhodes on Saturday in Shreveport and broke its season record with 19 wins—earning a No.6 seed in the SCAC Tournament after Colorado College reversed a Texas Lutheran win. Tournament play begins Friday in Kerrville.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Monday, Overton beat Cushing 42 to 8 as Rylan Holleman ran 318 yards and scored five times; the Mustangs ended their 3 to 3 District 11-2A season and will play West Sabine in a playoff game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Joaquin High School. On Friday, the Arp Tigers won 33 to 21 over West Rusk as Judson Dotson threw for 233 yards and three scores — this win gave Arp the second playoff seed while West Rusk took third.  Kilgore News Herald
  • LeTourneau women’s basketball starts its season today against Howard Payne in their debut SCAC game under fourth-year coach Scot MacAllister—nine newcomers join seven returners on the roster. The team will host College of Biblical Studies for its home opener on Nov. 15 with free admission at home games.  Longview News-Journal
