EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ White Oak ISD residents approved Proposition A Tuesday to refinance $1,075,000 in debt without raising tax bills. The approved bond measure will shift repayment from maintenance funds to an interest and sinking fund—freeing up about $200,000 each year for school programs in the next budget cycle. - ➤ The Longview library will host a teen hangout for ages 13-17 on November 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.—where participants will make ink float ornaments and meet new friends—and also learn about local events. City of Longview
- ➤ Kilgore High School Student Council organized a food drive to support the KHS Food Pantry that helps students facing food insecurity caused by recent cuts in food assistance programs—community members drop off donations at the school front office during regular hours while students use the pantry Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. KETK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Longview updated its recycling schedule on November 4 to reduce contamination by having households with Monday-to-Thursday trash days put recyclables in blue-lidded cans on the following day—this change follows the program's restart this past summer after a facility fire halted operations. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Spring Hill's Lady Panthers swept Pleasant Grove in a Class 4A playoff match at Willie Williams Gymnasium on November 4 with scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-15—improving their record to 38-6 and marking a 16-game win streak. They will face Frisco Panther Creek at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Kaufman. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The Kilgore College Rangers rallied for a 45—40 win over the Blinn College Buccaneers on November 4 when Ezell Jolly carried 29 times for 247 yards and two touchdowns and capped his game with an 11—yard run that secured the lead. - ➤ Five East Texas high school teams remain undefeated and are ranked in this week’s #bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 poll—with Carthage at No.1 and Canton at No.6 in Class 6A/5A/4A while Troup, Mount Enterprise and Frankston lead the Class 3A/2A/TAPPS group. They will face Brownsboro, Sunnyvale, Buffalo, Alto and Cayuga next week as they try to complete perfect seasons — votes from local media and sports networks shaped the poll. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Mount Enterprise's Kaegan Ash rushed 27 times for 599 yards and scored seven touchdowns while Tatum's Grayson Lee made 15 tackles and a sack in Week 10.
