- ➤ The Longview Walk of Honor Task Force has selected four honorees—Dr. Peggy and Howard Coghlan, David Hull, Bobby Taylor, and Ned E. Williams—for their major contributions to Longview, and a ceremony will be held on November 8 at 5 p.m. at the Fredonia Street location of the Longview Museum of Fine Arts to install plaques along the downtown sidewalk. - ➤ Longview officials and local nonprofits will hold a food drive—scheduled for Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.—at the Longview Convention Complex to help households affected by a government shutdown that is expected to delay SNAP benefits. - ➤ Flags were lowered to half-staff across Gregg County to honor Precinct 4 Commissioner Danny Craig Sr, who died on Oct. 29 at 63 and served as a pastor and funeral home owner for decades—Governor Greg Abbott ordered the displays until Nov. 16. KETK

- ➤ During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, East Texas survivors shared their personal battles with breast cancer and the role of early screening—Dr. Terry Woodard stressed that all women should get a mammogram by age 40 to catch problems early. KETK
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Spring Hill Lady Panthers defeated the Brownsboro Bearettes 3 to 1 in a Class 4A Division II bi-district volleyball playoff game at Tyler High School, earning Coach Andrew Harbison his 400th win — a milestone celebrated with a four-set contest. The team, now 37-6, will face Texarkana Pleasant Grove next week. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Hunters in the North Zone will begin the 2025–2026 duck season on Nov. 8 in Longview with the season split into two parts—first from Nov. 8 to Nov. 30 and then from Dec. 6 to Jan. 25—and proper licenses required for waterfowl hunting. Longview News-Journal
