The National Weather Service released damage surveys showing two EF1 tornadoes struck East Texas on Tuesday afternoon.

One tornado northeast of Lindale traveled nearly 5 miles—damaging roofs and trees—while another in Kilgore lasted 7 minutes and damaged homes and businesses.

Wednesday was the coldest night since spring in East Texas, and many turned on heaters and fireplaces for the first time this season—experts advised homeowners to check and maintain heating systems, change air filters, and install screens on wood burning fireplaces to prevent hazards. They also urged residents to update carbon monoxide detectors and schedule biannual maintenance on their appliances.
