ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service released damage surveys showing two EF1 tornadoes struck East Texas on Tuesday afternoon. One tornado northeast of Lindale traveled nearly 5 miles—damaging roofs and trees—while another in Kilgore lasted 7 minutes and damaged homes and businesses.  Kilgore News Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wednesday was the coldest night since spring in East Texas, and many turned on heaters and fireplaces for the first time this season—experts advised homeowners to check and maintain heating systems, change air filters, and install screens on wood burning fireplaces to prevent hazards. They also urged residents to update carbon monoxide detectors and schedule biannual maintenance on their appliances.  KETK

  • Longtime food columnist Barbara Richardson McClellan published her weekly recipe column with dishes like Texas Tacos, Party Potatoes and Cranberry Salad for cooking and sharing meals.   • Lindale advanced in the playoffs after sweeping the Lady Pirates with set scores of 25 to 12, 25 to 11 and 25 to 11 at Gladewater High School — the win improved their record to 30 to 14 and they will face either Sulphur Springs or Wills Point in the next round.  Longview News-Journal
  • High school football standings show North Forney, Rockwall-Heath and Forney have clinched playoff berths in District 10-6A — Longview, with a 5-3 record after winning its last game against Rockwall-Heath, will face North Forney today as part of Friday’s matchups.  Longview News-Journal
  • University of Texas verbal pledge John Turntine from North Crowley earned Built Ford Tough Texas High School Player of the Week honors for Week 9 after helping his team score 69 points and gain 651 yards in a win over Boswell. The award, now in its 20th season, recognizes high school players for their performance on and off the field.  Longview News-Journal
  • Today, Longview (5-3, 3-1) will face North Forney (7-1, 3-1) at 7:30 p.m. at Better Life Stadium in Forney+ coach John King looks to improve the team's record by relying on veteran quarterback Johnny Hamilton, who threw for 1,410 yards and seven touchdowns last season. It is only the second meeting between the two teams, with Longview winning 21-0 in their previous contest.  Longview News-Journal
