  • Improv group Duck. Duck. Moose! will stage a family-friendly comedy show titled Howling with Laughter at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Community Connections building, 501 Pine Tree Road to benefit the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center during Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.  Longview News-Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Yesterday at about 3:30 p.m., a possible tornado or strong winds hit southern Kilgore from Industrial toward Henderson Blvd. around Driller Park and R.E. St. John Stadium, blocking streets with downed trees and power lines—while on Tuesday, an EF0 tornado reportedly touched down near Lindale off FM 2710, damaging trees and homes with no injuries reported.  Kilgore News Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Communities across East Texas are hosting Halloween events ranging from trunk or treat gatherings and costume contests to haunted houses and parties—with local businesses and organizations joining in. In Longview, Mobberly Baptist Church held a Candy Parade on Oct. 29 and CHRISTUS Good Shepard Halloween Event will start today at 4 p.m., featuring treats, games and face painting.  KETK

ECONOMY NEWS

  • SNAP benefits for 3.5 million Texans will be cut off on Saturday due to a government shutdown, and experts warn that the loss of about $400 a month per person will hit small grocery stores hard. The reduction in spending is expected to ripple through the state economy—lowering sales, risking layoffs, and worsening food access in high-SNAP areas.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Longview High School senior was named grand champion at the State Fair of Texas Agricultural Job Interview Contest on October 29, winning a college scholarship, championship belt buckle and banner after a tough interview process in Dallas — she is also an active member and officer in the local FFA. School officials noted that her achievement reflects strong career readiness and the benefit of Longview ISD's award-winning agricultural programs.  Longview News-Journal

  • A Longview woman, Ashley Webb, saved her brother Trenton Burton's life by donating her kidney in a swap that gave a match to a stranger—and medical officials said both recipients are doing well.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mount Enterprise and Overton will face off today at 7 p.m. at Chester Roy Stadium — the game marks the 31st meeting between the rivals, with Overton leading the series 17-13. Mount Enterprise holds an 8-0 record while Overton is 5-3, and key players like Kaegan Ash and Rylan Holleman will have important roles.  Longview News-Journal
  • East Texas high school bands earned top awards at the UIL Conference State Military Marching Band Competition on Tuesday at Baylor University in Waco — Longview High School’s Big Green Marching Machine finished second in the 5A/6A division — while Cleveland High School won in its category.  Longview News-Journal
