COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Longview High School choir postponed its event to honor Vietnam War veterans to November 8 because of expected inclement weather. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. — the ceremony is at 4 p.m. on the school campus.  Longview News-Journal
  • Longview's Green Street Recreation Center invites seniors 55 and older to join a free trip to Canton Trade Days on Friday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees must meet at the center at 9 a.m. + bring cash for shopping and lunch + transportation is provided.  City of Longview

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The LEDCO Board approved a deal to bring Ninth Avenue Foods’ third dairy manufacturing facility to Longview’s North Business Park, which will create 150 full-time jobs and bring over $200 million in capital investment over the next five years—this new facility is expected to strengthen the local economy.  KETK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longview High School senior Brynn Woods earned the top spot in the State Fair Job Interview Contest—winning a college scholarship, a championship buckle and a banner. She completed several rounds after submitting a resume, cover letter and job description and was recognized as a Big Tex Scholar for her leadership and academic work as an active Longview FFA member.  KETK

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tyler Junior College Dental Studies Department will host a free dental clinic for kids ages 4-11 on November 8 at the TJC Dental Clinic within Rogers Nursing and Health Sciences Center—appointments are required since space is limited.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, Longview hosts Rockwall-Heath at 7:30 p.m. at Lobo Stadium on Airline Road while Spring Hill meets North Lamar at 6 p.m. at Panther Stadium on Spring Hill Road—both contests feature teams with strong district rivalries and notable coaching records.  Longview News-Journal
  • Today, West Rusk (6-1) faces Troup (8-0) at 7:30 p.m. at Troup Tiger Stadium—West Rusk leads the series 19-16. Today, Overton (4-3) hosts Alto (4-4) at 6:30 p.m. at Cam’Ron Matthews Field—Overton has won the last two meetings.  Kilgore News Herald
  • The Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week awards honored top high school quarterbacks and running backs in Week 8, naming Parker Almanza, Jake Fette, Jaxxon Marie, Lamont Franklin, Cayde Winters and George Anagnostis for helping their teams win high-scoring games. Almanza passed for 359 yards and six touchdowns in a 48-26 win while the program, now in its 20th season, recognized players for outstanding on-field performance and leadership—spotlighting key contributions across the state.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Thursday night, Pleasant Grove, the No. 2 ranked Hawks, took advantage of multiple Gilmer turnovers to win 41-7 in District 8-4A play, with junior quarterback Colt Yancey and receiver Jamarion Richardson scoring key touchdowns. Gilmer’s repeated mistakes allowed Pleasant Grove to build an early lead that proved decisive+ the loss dropped Gilmer’s record to 2-6.  Longview News-Journal
  • Pine Tree junior Rashaad Wofford made a key interception with just over a minute left to help the Pirates win 35—28 over Chapel Hill at Pirate Stadium on Thursday—his seventh of the season. The win moved Pine Tree to a 3—1 record while Chapel Hill dropped to 2—3.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore, holding a record of 2 wins and 4 losses, will host undefeated Tyler at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium on Saturday (1 p.m.). Coach Willie Gooden leads Kilgore while Tyler is led by coach Tanner Jacobson.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore beat Palestine 55-3 on Thursday night when Kayson Brooks scored five touchdowns and Rayshaun Williams rushed for 186 yards—securing the Bulldogs' third straight district title and an 8-1 record. The team will take a bye week before finishing district play at Mabank on Nov. 6.  Kilgore News Herald
