- ➤ A Longview veteran, retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Henry Ham II, received his new service dog Trip during a presentation Saturday at Teague Park Veterans Plaza. The Fletcher Project — created by Brenda Fletcher and managed by Rusk County Pets Alive — used inmate trainers from Billy Moore Correctional Center to prepare Trip, who became the first service dog approved to work at Barksdale Air Force Base. - ➤ Longview-based In Her Voice and In His Voice movements help locals share their painful pasts to heal and find hope by writing about abuse, addiction, and hard times—offering support for both women and men as they publish their true stories. The program invites community members to join when they are ready and work together to lift each other up. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ At the Longview Mall on Saturday, Longview Community Ministries hosted its annual Touch a Truck Feed a Family event where children and families climbed on police, fire and EMS vehicles — monster trucks, school buses and military vehicles — and were asked to donate canned goods or money to support local food and emergency help. The free event is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to assist residents with essential services. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Small business owners across the region can join two free webinars led by Henry Vinson, a recognized expert with over 14 years of experience in government contracting. - ➤ On Friday, the Spring Hill Lady Panthers won their fourth straight district title with a 3–0 sweep over Gilmer—set scores were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-15—and Calleigh Secord led with three kills, three blocks, two aces and six digs. Other teams won district matches, including Pine Tree, Hallsville, Marshall, Carthage, Sabine, Troup, New Diana, Beckville, Harleton and Bullard. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Local player Johnny Hamilton posted 302 passing yards and three total touchdowns for the Lobos in their 63 to 20 win over Tyler Legacy, where Mason Washington added 74 rushing yards plus three touchdowns while Jaden Hurndon caught for 128 yards. The regional round-up showed standout efforts as players from several schools delivered strong offensive and defensive plays in week 8. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Last Friday, high school football teams battled in district games as Nacogdoches beat Whitehouse 34–24 with Jaylen Garrett and R.J. Whitaker leading the way and Daingerfield won 76–59 with Reign Wallace scoring seven touchdowns—while Carlisle posted a 47–0 shutout and Mt. Enterprise beat Tenaha 56–22. Strong plays across the region are setting up tough matchups for upcoming contests. Longview News-Journal
