- ➤ East Texans gathered near Gregg County Courthouse to unveil a marker honoring the tragic events of 1919 that led to Lemuel Walters' death — several Black homes were burned during the riots. The city also recognized July 10 as Remembrance Day to help the community remember and heal. KETK

- ➤ Mia Gage, a Gilmer High School senior, was crowned the 88th queen at the East Texas Yamboree coronation at the Gilmer Civic Center on Oct 16 — a key event as the festival continues today and tomorrow with shop projects, exhibits, and live music. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Jacob Climer from New York is designing special gowns and backdrops for the 92nd Texas Rose Festival, and the queen’s coronation will open today at 2 p.m. He began planning these designs 16 months ago to ensure each look is unique — adding storybook magic to the event. KETK
- ➤ Yesterday, The Hamptons of Tyler hosted a meeting when original K-Girl Jackie Johnson Ray met dancer Courtney Klepfer to share the Rangerette tradition with residents (the pair posed in the iconic stance and discussed how the program has stayed true to its roots). Kilgore News Herald

- ➤ On Wednesday, National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, labor and delivery nurse Ashlen Royce led a candlelight vigil in the Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center healing garden to remember infants and newborns who died. Royce, who has worked for seven years and lost two babies, urged grieving parents to lean on support and stay hopeful — believing better days are coming. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Today, high school football teams in East Texas will play several games, including Kilgore (6-1) versus Lindale (6-0) at Eagle Stadium at 7:30 p.m.—other matchups feature schools in White Oak, Jacksonville, Gilmer, Troup, Tatum, Harmony, Mt. Enterprise, Carlisle and Tyler as they vie for top records. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Today three high school football games have road teams — Longview meets Tyler Legacy at 7:30 p.m. at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler, Pine Tree faces Henderson at 7:30 p.m. at Lion Stadium in Henderson, and Spring Hill plays Pleasant Grove at 7 p.m. at Hawk Stadium in Texarkana. - ➤ At Tyler Junior College on Wednesday, coaches and media at the Region XIV Conference Media Day picked defending champion Kilgore College women as regional champions with 59 points (four points ahead of Trinity Valley) while naming Trinity Valley the favorite for the men with 11 of 12 first-place votes and 132 total points. The picks come after the Lady Rangers' breakout 24-10 season and set the stage for a competitive regional basketball season. Kilgore News Herald
