- ➤ Dain Goudarzi, son of attorney Brent Goudarzi, was sworn in at Upshur County District Court to join the Goudarzi & Young, LLP law firm with offices in Longview and Gilmer. He earned his law degree from SMU Dedman School of Law and, during his third year of law school, secured a $170,000 verdict—an achievement noted by legal experts. Longview News-Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Paisanos of East Texas hosted the annual East Texas Culture Fest on Saturday in downtown Longview, offering music, food, shopping and children’s activities. The free event continues today from noon until 9 p.m. at Heritage Plaza on the corner of Green and Methvin with food trucks, drink vendors and a beer garden. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The East Texas Yamboree festival will run in Gilmer from Oct 15 to Oct 18 and will draw around 100,000 visitors for livestock shows, live bands, exhibits & a carnival. Scheduled events include a broiler show, a rabbit show, a queen’s coronation and a barn dance, with activities planned across multiple venues. Longview News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Saturday meeting at the state Capitol, the Texas GOP censured five House members while rejecting a proposal to bar them from the 2026 primary ballot—arguing that the rule would violate their rights. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Friday night games saw the Nacogdoches Dragons edge the Hallsville Bobcats 21-20 after a late facemask penalty gave them a crucial first down while the Dragons improved to 5-1 in district play—other teams including the Gilmer Buckeyes and Gladewater Bears posted wins. - ➤ Texas High Tigers beat the Marshall Mavericks 14—0 in a tight defensive game on Saturday, October 11 when key turnovers helped the Tigers score. Marshall fell to a 4—2 record while the Tigers improved to 6—1 and will face Mount Pleasant on October 17. Longview News-Journal
