- ➤ The Longview Convention Complex Ag Pavilions and Maude Cobb Convention Center will host the Harvest Festival and Livestock Show from Oct.22 to Oct.25, featuring a Home Economics and Ag Mechanics show along with a Jr. Livestock Show and Sale for 4-H and FFA members from several counties—public viewing of the Home Economics Divisions will start at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. - ➤ The East Texas Treasure Show will run on October 25—this free event organized by local metal detecting and treasure hunting clubs will offer gold panning demos, Native American artifacts, relics, coins, jewelry, hourly door prizes, kids activities, vendors, and food trucks for all ages. - ➤ Texas-based Razzoo’s Cajun chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 1 due to a drop in sales caused by changing consumer habits and an early crawfish season—factors that led to multiple store closures and prompted first-day motions for immediate relief. The company, which operates 23 restaurants in the state, is now working to protect its operations as it enters the bankruptcy process. KETK

- ➤ Longview Public Library will host the Haunted Library event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 18—this fundraiser will turn the library into a spooky space with zombies, ghouls and an expanded 'Five Nights at Freddy's' area. The library will close for set-up and the event from Oct. 16 to 18, and patrons can use curbside book pickup on Oct. 16 and 17. Longview News-Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Water officials met at the Longview Community Center on Wednesday to discuss the state’s water crisis and the high cost and long time needed to fix old systems + meet rising demand. They said the debate comes as voters will consider a measure in November to fund water improvements. Longview News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Few people attended the special meeting of the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District board on Sept 5 when it approved a termination agreement with US Steel. David Simpson, a local alderman, said the board must improve transparency by posting alerts and making its meetings more open. Longview News-Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Three Friday football games are set—Kilgore will host Chapel Hill at 7:30 p.m. at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, Overton will host Lovelady at 7 p.m. at Chester Roy Stadium, and West Rusk will host New Diana at 7:30 p.m. at Bruce Bradshaw Stadium; local players are expected to deliver strong performances in these contests.
