- ➤ Saturday, downtown Longview hosted the Great Pumpkin Roll fundraiser by Visit Longview and Downtown Longview, where people rolled pumpkins down Center Street to hit targets. A new Pumpkin Duel—where the person with the shortest roll made a donation—joined games, food trucks and vendors to add to the festive event. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The East Texas Literacy Council opened a resource closet at its office at 320 E. Methvin St.—in partnership with local groups and with donated clothes from Gap Inc.—to offer free professional clothing, college supplies and GED study materials to low-income clients. The nonprofit has helped people learn to read for nearly 40 years and will use the closet as a stepping stone for clients' future success. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Spectators enjoyed high-flying excitement at the fourth annual Ollie’s Skate Shop Downtown Takeover on Saturday in downtown Longview—skaters competed in a hill bomb speed contest on Center Street and a street contest on West Tyler Street in front of the shop. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ A local gardening expert said that homeowners with 40-year-old crape myrtle trees should not worry about their age since weak blooms are often caused by freeze damage or too much pruning. He advised them to keep the trees watered and to use fertilizer mid-March and mid-May to help new growth. Longview News-Journal
