CULTURE NEWS

  • Longview residents joined Arts!Longview's ArtWalk downtown on October 2 and enjoyed a free self-guided tour that featured visual art, music and other creative displays—artists of all kinds were part of the event. The final ArtWalk is set for Dec. 11 to coincide with the Museum of Fine Art’s Holiday Market.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longview ISD held its first State of the District luncheon on Wednesday at Infinity Event Center where Superintendent Dr. Marla Sheppard introduced the Elevate2030 strategic plan and provided an update on the $456.2 million bond program—highlighting five priorities and plans to begin high school upgrades in November.  Longview News-Journal
  • UT Tyler hosted its annual career fair on Thursday for students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business—employers met with students to discuss internships and entry-level jobs. UT Tyler will schedule additional fairs soon as dates are announced on its website.  KETK
  • UT Tyler will launch a new physician assistant program at its Longview campus in 2027 with 30 available spots to help fill local healthcare shortages; a new expansion covering 10144 square feet was funded by $10 million from the 88th Legislature — officials expect the program will encourage local students to work in the region.  KETK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Nathaniel Moran launched a new website yesterday to guide constituents on how the government shutdown may affect federal services and benefits — the resource provides FAQs and contact details for his Tyler and D.C. offices — the page will be updated as new information becomes available.  Kilgore News Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today at 7:30 p.m., Kilgore with a 4-1 record will host Henderson, also 4-1, at Lions Stadium under coaches Clint Fuller and Ricky Meeks—both teams aim to build on last week's wins. Also today at 7:30 p.m., West Rusk will play Winona at Wildcat Stadium as West Rusk has outscored Winona in recent matchups.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Today, the Longview Lobos visit Rockwall at 7:30 p.m. at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium—interim coach Oscar Wilson leads the team that holds a 10–1 all-time series lead after last year’s 63–34 win. Also today, the Mabank Pirates host Pine Tree at Pirate Stadium in Longview—first-year coach Shawn Copeland looks to build on improved results after Pine Tree beat them 38–6 last season.  Longview News-Journal
  • High school football previews for week 6 were released ahead of tonight’s games, featuring matchups like Hallsville versus Jacksonville at The Tomato Bowl and Kilgore versus Henderson at Lion Stadium. The previews list team records, coach details, and key player stats for a busy slate starting around 7:00 or 7:30 p.m.—a competitive night for local teams.  Longview News-Journal
