- ➤ Downtown Longview will host the fourth annual Great Pumpkin Roll and Ollie’s Skate Shop Downtown Takeover on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. Organized by Visit Longview and Downtown Longview, the event offers pumpkin rolling, pie-eating contests, a head-to-head Pumpkin Duel and a skateboard contest on West Tyler Street—registration for which begins at 11 a.m. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The library will host a free Tai Chi class on October 10 led by local martial artist Paul Gerald. Participants may join a seniors modified session (9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) or a traditional session (10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) with required signup. City of Longview

- ➤ Kilgore College student Ruddy Morales was awarded the Dr. Mary Hood Star Scholarship at the 2025 Phi Theta Kappa Texas Honors Institute held on July 13 at Texas Lutheran University for his leadership, academic excellence, and service in computer information systems—an honor that recognizes his dedication to the campus and community. - ➤ Longview ISD Superintendent Marla Sheppard announced the Elevate 2030 plan today at the State of the District Luncheon to improve education by focusing on five priorities—empowerment through academics, staff growth, community connection, student and staff well-being, and operational excellence. The plan also updates the 2024 school bond elections and outlines steps to create the district’s own police department. KETK

- ➤ The Longview City Council considered a long-term fire apparatus replacement program to update 17 aging vehicles and end reliance on outdated reserve units. Fire Chief Greg Grimes and Finance Director Angela Coen presented plans using tax-exempt loans—designed to lower costs and secure a reliable fleet for the future. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ State Rep. Jay Dean secured a $10M state grant to upgrade Marion County water and sewer systems—addressing aging infrastructure in Jefferson and nearby communities. - ➤ LeTourneau men's golfer Noah Summers recorded a 7-under score to claim his first collegiate medalist honor at the Jacksonville College Classic on Tuesday at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club.
