COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pastor Andro Branch from Our Father’s House of Faith Ministries in Lufkin has been elevated to serve as District Elder for East Texas in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World and will be confirmed on Friday at the Texas State Council meeting in San Antonio—he will oversee four churches in the local area. Branch, who served as program director for six years and has held many community roles, said he is honored to guide local congregations in their faith.  KETK

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ellie Bee’s Boutique in Longview will close in Spring 2026 after 15 years of service and will stop selling gift cards as of today. The store remains open for the holiday season with its Christmas sale, Black Friday and Small Business Saturday events — its return policy stays unchanged.  KETK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Pine Tree Middle School students learned about healthy eating and managing emotions when Miss Texas Sadie Schiermeyer spoke in the school cafeteria—she shared her personal journey with an eating disorder and encouraged a balanced lifestyle.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Longview will add a 2000-square-foot pavilion next to the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center to offer more event options—this project will connect to the Eitelman Conference Room and outdoor areas for weddings and gatherings. The city awarded a $284,859 contract to Casey Slone Construction using hotel occupancy tax funds, and construction will take about three months.  Longview News-Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Tuesday, September 30, leaders of six Longview-area nonprofit groups received part of a $300K award from Christus Health for programs that improve health, such as fighting chronic disease and supporting mental health. The funds from the Christus Community Impact Fund went to groups working on projects like family pathways and raised garden beds — with each organization’s grant amount not disclosed.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Rusk senior Kimora Pryor was named East Texas Volleyball Player of the Week by the Longview News-Journal after strong wins over White Oak and Sabine; she recorded 64 assists and added kills, blocks and digs to help her team improve its record—boosting their district play.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Tuesday, the Spring Hill Lady Panthers beat rival Pine Tree by winning 25-8, 25-21 and 27-25 at Panther Gymnasium as Elizabeth Corbitt reached 1,000 kills with 15 kills in the match. The team improved to 29-6 overall and 7-0 in district play and will face Pine Tree again on Oct. 24.  Longview News-Journal
  • Elysian Fields' Brandon Nunu Kennedy and Gladewater’s Mason Budro earned top weekly football honors from the Longview News-Journal for helping their teams secure district wins—Kennedy threw, ran, and returned kicks while Budro recorded 16 tackles in a comeback win.  Longview News-Journal
  • In Tuesday's district volleyball matchups, Rockwall-Heath swept the Longview Lady Lobos and wins were earned by teams including Marshall, Kilgore, Tatum, White Oak, New Diana, Hughes Springs, Troup, Beckville, Harmony, Harleton and Bullard. Key players posted high numbers in kills, digs and assists in contests across several districts—showing a day of strong and competitive play.  Longview News-Journal
  • A bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 poll published Tuesday showed Carthage finished 4-0 and Longview ended 2-2 after local sports reporters cast votes on team records. The poll also ranked other teams—such as Kilgore, Lindale and Texas High—based on their recent game outcomes.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore beat Chapel Hill 3-1 Tuesday in District 16-4A play. Elle Litchenburg led with 28 assists + other players contributed to snap a four-game district losing streak.  Kilgore News Herald
  • In week 5 football games, top players stood out as Kilgore’s Kayson Brooks threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Pine Tree and West Rusk’s Judson Dotson passed for 205 yards and three touchdowns in a 62—13 win — while players from Tatum, Henderson and others made key plays, helping their teams succeed.  Kilgore News Herald
