  • Parents of the last missing girl from Camp Mystic condemned the decision to reopen one campsite in 2026, saying it is unthinkable to resume operations when a child remains missing and grieving families still suffer—camp officials defended the move by noting that the Cypress Lake site was unharmed by the July 4 flood and plans for a memorial will be developed soon.  Longview News-Journal

  • Neal McCoy, a Longview native, and country star Pam Tillis sang their hits on Saturday at the LeTourneau University Belcher Center—raising funds for the Angel Network that covers living and travel expenses for families with seriously ill children within a 75-mile radius.  Longview News-Journal

  • A gardening expert said crape myrtle trees that suffered freeze damage can bounce back with new sprouts from their roots—he advised applying a high-nitrogen fertilizer in early spring and shared tips for caring for pear trees, hydrangeas and weeds. The advice aims to help local gardeners know how to manage winter damage and boost plant recovery.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high school players showed strong skill in week 5 games—Colton Croft of Pine Tree threw 18 passes for 231 yards with a touchdown and an interception while Kayson Brooks of Kilgore passed for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Other teams from Carthage, Henderson and Gilmer had players who rushed, caught passes and made key tackles to help win their games.  Longview News-Journal
