- ➤ Lake Striker Resort in Reklaw is asking community members to donate gently used or new life jackets to refill its low loaner station—donations can be dropped off at the marina or arranged for pickup. KETK
- ➤ Too Close to Home: Uniting Against Violence is a one-day conference set for Oct. 14 that will educate the public, professionals and community members about domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking — registration costs $15 and includes CEU's, vendors, food trucks and nationally renowned speakers. - ➤ Neal McCoy and Pam Tillis will perform Saturday in Longview at 7 p.m. at the LeTourneau University Belcher Center—raising funds for the East Texas Angel Network that helps families with children facing severe or terminal illnesses. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Sprouts Farmers Market in Longview is hosting hiring events today from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Longview to fill 82 full- and part-time job openings, with no interviews from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and the store set to open on Oct. 31 — grand opening details will be announced later. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Monster Truck Wars will take place on Oct. 11 in Longview with a matinee show beginning at noon and an evening show starting at 6 p.m.—gates open at 10:30 a.m. for the matinee and at 4 p.m. for the evening, and tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. City of Longview
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Teens ages 13 to 17 will join a free Dungeons and Dragons session at the library on September 27 from 2:00 PM to 4:45 PM—staff and a teen intern will lead the game as participants create character sheets and campaign stories for a potential monthly meet-up. City of Longview
- ➤ Spring Hill ISD held a town hall meeting at Spring Hill Junior High Monday night where board President John Borens and Trustee Kyle Stephens explained that Proposition A would raise the tax rate by 3.21 cents per $100 to generate $304,590 in new funding for teacher raises, instructional materials, & other services. They also detailed bond proposals totaling about $20 million to fund renovations at the junior high, Panther Stadium, & the tennis complex without increasing property tax bills. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Longview Lobos posted a 2-2 record and ranked 20th in the latest DCTF poll as reported on Monday, September 22nd, with their performance reflecting a mixed season so far. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ On Friday night, Tatum Eagles led 10-0 before West Rusk Raiders rallied to win 14-10, marking their first victory over Tatum since 1987 & Tatum struggled with penalties and an absent lineman that hampered their play. Kilgore News Herald
- ➤ On Friday, the Spring Hill Lady Panthers beat Kilgore 3 to 1 in District 16-4A play as key players Chesney Jeter and Elizabeth Corbitt led the win with 23 assists + 22 kills. The Tatum Lady Eagles swept Sabine 3 to 0 in District 16-3A with Kaysen Foster recording 17 kills and Taydem Barker handing out 19 assists. Kilgore News Herald
