ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Expert Neil explains that fungal conks on mature live oaks may signal serious internal decay and advises homeowners to have a certified arborist inspect the tree before winter storms arrive—he also offers guidance on managing garden nematodes, using herbicides near water wells, and choosing the best trees for local landscapes.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials confirmed all swimming pools, including in-ground, above-ground, and hot tubs over 18 inches deep, must be fenced with a backup alarm required if no separate fence exists. Longview City Council will review plans for new fire apparatus on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.—fire chief Greg Grimes explained that the department needs to replace five front-line engines and one ladder truck to address high call volumes.  Longview News-Journal
