BUSINESS NEWS

  • Longview’s new Sprouts Farmers Market will open Oct 31 at 2547 Judson Road and host in-person hiring events at Hilton Garden Inn Sept 23 and 24 for 82 positions. Conaway Homes has begun clearing land at Toler Road and Jahan Trail for 40 new homes, and Enprotech will open a field service office at 235 Lone Star Parkway on Sept 30—adding jobs and services to the area.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • G. Floyd has attended many local government meetings including City Council, ISD board, and county commissions for the past 15 years and thinks more residents should join to help guide decisions. He believes that sharing views strengthens our community—every voice counts in shaping what happens in Longview.  Longview News-Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kilgore-based Sana Mente Aliados will host a Spanish-speaking mental health workshop today from 10 a.m. to noon to teach local community members how to seek counseling services. A community member will share personal experiences with counseling to help those needing support.  Kilgore News Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thursday night at Lowrance Field, the Yellowjackets won 39-14 over Hawkins in the District 10-2A opener—as Nunu Kennedy ran 236 yards with three touchdowns and Alex Simmons added a touchdown and a 64 yard fumble return—to secure the win.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Friday, North Forney rallied from a set down to win 3-1 over the Longview Lady Lobos in District 10-6A play—other contests showed Spring Hill, Pine Tree, Henderson, and additional teams earning wins in competitive matches. Standout players included Triniti Jackson with 18 kills and Carly Chadwick with 35 assists, adding to a busy day of volleyball action.  Longview News-Journal
  • Carthage beat Chapel Hill 56-34 at Bulldog Stadium on Friday as senior running backs KJ Edwards and Benny Smith carried the ball 33 times for 310 yards and five touchdowns—despite the team losing key players to injury. Coach Surratt said the strong second half set the stage for a lighter schedule with games against Jasper and San Benito coming up.  Longview News-Journal
  • Archery season will start on Sept. 27 and local hunters are checking their bows and practicing at 25 to 35 yard ranges for better aim and safety. Experts advise that a visit to a local shop in Carthage to inspect gear can help get ready for the hunt.  Longview News-Journal
  • At Roughneck Stadium on Friday, the White Oak Roughnecks defeated the Queen City Bulldogs by a margin of 69 to 6 with a quick offense and strong defense. The win moved their record to four wins and zero losses, and they will host Atlanta in their next game.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Friday, the Pine Tree Pirates beat the Hallsville Bobcats by a score of 28 to 21 in overtime with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Colton Croft to Bosston Johnson (which secured the win). The Pirates improved to a 2-2 record and will play next at Kilgore while the Bobcats remain 0-4.  Longview News-Journal
  • Multiple football games were played Thursday as Henderson delivered a 56-7 rout over Gainesville with standout plays from Vince Howard and Jesstin Starling—Beckville crushed Harleton 30-6 with strong defense and efficient quarterback Braxton Bullock. Waskom won 54-21 over Union Grove and Overton beat Maud 49-22 with decisive scoring drives.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore beat Pleasant Grove 18—6 on Friday night at Hawks Stadium before district play. Eddie Jimenez kicked three field goals and Rayshaun Williams ran for 100 yards as Kilgore's strong defense held Pleasant Grove to five first downs.  Longview News-Journal
