COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Seven Medal of Honor recipients came to the Texas Veterans’ Military Show in Bullard, starting on Thursday at the Tyler Regional Airport and continuing through the weekend with a parade at The Brook Hill School where students greeted the honorees. The three-day event helped local families learn about military history—showing restored vehicles and equipment as well as the legacy of brave service.  Longview News-Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jeff Owen of the Sons of the Republic of Texas will host a membership workshop at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 in Rusk County to form a new James Pinckney Henderson chapter—requiring 10 dues-paying members and two officer candidates to celebrate Texas heritage.  Kilgore News Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the formation of Senate and House committees to study bias and free speech at universities amid backlash over comments following Charlie Kirk's shooting—Sen. Bryan Hughes was named vice chair of the Senate panel. The panels will review policies including Senate Bill 37 and Senate Bill 2972, but no hearings have been scheduled.  Longview News-Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A nonprofit that existed only on paper transferred downtown Longview property on Methvin Street in February in a move that raised legal questions, and then turned the property over to Boss Bros—linked to the Goswick family. Local officials and a nonprofit attorney say the reinstated organization may not legally own the buildings because of unpaid liens and unclear paperwork.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Week 3 high school football saw the Pittsburg Pirates turn their season around with a 45-0 win over Grace Community—other teams including the Chapel Hill Bulldogs, Jefferson, and Newton also secured wins while several teams held opponents scoreless. Teams are preparing for Friday matchups as the season continues.  Longview News-Journal
