BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eastman Chemical Co.'s fall turnaround is bringing over 1,300 contractor workers from 25-30 companies to Longview for a nine to ten week maintenance project that aims to improve safety, reliability and growth at the facility. The city warns motorists to allow extra time during shift changes (5:30 to 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.) due to heavier traffic near key intersections.  Longview News-Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A man pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter after fatally striking a pedestrian on Feb. 24, 2024 in the 500 block of West Hope Drive in Longview and was sentenced to 40 years in prison—he had been driving drunk when he hit a vehicle and the victim later died at a local hospital.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • The annual Pine Tree Mike Darby Cross Country Invitational will be held Friday at Lear Park in Longview—races start at 8 a.m. to honor longtime Pirates coach Mike Darby who led the team for 38 years.  Longview News-Journal
  • LeTourneau goalkeeper Kinsey Fulks from Frisco was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week after earning shutouts in two games, while volleyball junior Maddy Hirneise from Hickory Creek received the same honor after recording 78 digs in three matches. The YellowJackets will face Wiley tomorrow at 7 p.m.—both players add key impact to the team this season.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore’s Kayson Brooks—who passed for 300 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-14 win—and Longview junior Lawson Tubb, who made 12 tackles and a sack in the Lobos’ 20-7 victory, were named Players of the Week by the Longview News-Journal for their standout Week 2 performances in high school football. The Lobos will travel to South Oak Cliff on Friday while Kilgore hosts Gilmer—both teams aiming to build on their early season honors.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, local sports reporters released the results of the #bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 poll with team records for the 6A/5A/4A and 3A/2A/TAPPS divisions, and Longview posted a 2-0 record & several teams like Carthage and Pleasant Grove earned top marks.  Longview News-Journal
  • Harleton's Lady Wildcats broke their streak with the program’s first win and a 3-4 record over seven games last week, and freshman AnnaBelle Bunger earned Longview News-Journal's Volleyball Player of the Week by posting 17 aces, 18 kills, 73 assists and 41 digs—showing her potential to lead a team that started the season with 15 straight losses. The team plans to build on this success in upcoming matches.  Longview News-Journal
