COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Plan to join the Nina Effect 5K Nature Trail Run, 1 Mile Dog Walk and scavenger hunt on Saturday, October 4 at 10 a.m. at Campbell Woods (20148 FM 449) in Longview. The event, hosted by Dr. John and Maggie Campbell and funded by Longview PAWS, will honor Nina's joyful spirit with a day of outdoor fun for all ages.  City of Longview

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Longview welcomes visitors during Eastman Chemical Company's Fall Turnaround, which will bring over 1,300 contractor employees and 1,000 full-time employees for a maintenance project lasting (nine to ten weeks). Residents are advised to allow extra time for traffic around I-20 access road, Loop 281, and Highway 259 during shift changes (5:30 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.).  City of Longview
  • Gregg County opened a new 300-space parking garage Monday morning in downtown Longview after 480 days of construction and a $22 million investment—providing free parking for workers and visitors along Methvin Street—and hosting indoor offices for Veterans Affairs, Elections, and County Tax Services.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • After beating Marshall on Friday, September 5, the Longview Lobos moved to 11th place in the DCTF poll with a 2-0 record — a strong start to their season.  Longview News-Journal
  • LETU’s volleyball team split its doubleheader in Georgia with a 3-1 win over Covenant and a 3-0 loss to Transylvania—Aubree McCann recorded 19 kills and 28 digs. The men’s soccer team drew 2-2 with Millsaps while the women’s team won 3-0—LETU will travel to Belton for the UMHB Classic on Sept 12-13.  Longview News-Journal
  • At Laird Hill, David Salazar ran five times for 162 yards and four touchdowns as Leverett’s Chapel beat Dallas Academy 52-6 on Friday. Christus Smith scored a rushing touchdown and quarterback Ethan Vaden threw a 40-yard touchdown pass—pushing the Lions to a 1-1 record.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Kilgore College softball opened its fall season on Saturday in Tatum — the team won two games against Next Gen and Lady Patriots 2K15, lost 5-4 to 643 Fastpitch, and then won two games on Sunday at The Ballpark at KC Commons. The team will host TSF-Martin on Saturday at 11 and 1 p.m. at the same park.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Saturday night, ETBU beat Lyon College by a score of 47 to 8 at Ornelas Stadium in Marshall, gaining 481 rushing yards and 621 yards overall. The team will host Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m.—they scored 47 unanswered points after Lyon had an 8 to 0 lead.  Longview News-Journal
