COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Longview and Tyler are competing in a peanut butter drive to support the local food bank during September's Hunger Action Month. Jars will be collected through Sept. 25 — results will be updated twice weekly until a final tally is announced on Sept. 29.  Longview News-Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fisherman’s Market and Oyster Bar has been a family business in Longview for over 50 years, originally opening as a seafood market in a retail center on Johnston Street. General manager Chariti Estrada said the restaurant still serves home-cooked Cajun dishes like oysters, chicken spaghetti, catfish filets and butterfly shrimp—while the Mijalis grandchildren plan future updates such as adding mixed drinks.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chapel Hill Bulldogs overcame a 20–point early deficit and beat Gilmer 41–26 on Friday — Malik Gee scored six touchdowns while senior Damarcion Blaylock added three to spark the comeback.  Longview News-Journal
  • Joaquin Rams won 35-16 against the Beckville Bearcats at Ram Stadium on Thursday night—Beckville scored its first points of the season but struggled after three key interceptions by Jacob Gatlin. The Bearcats will host Harmony on Sept. 12 for their first Friday night and Homecoming game.  Longview News-Journal
  • Tyler Junior College, led by coach Tanner Jacobson, beat Snow College 26-13 on Thursday in Utah as the Apaches jumped to an early lead and secured a 2-0 record. The team will play Trinity Valley Community College on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Bruce Field — a key step in their season schedule.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Thursday at Eagle Stadium the Tatum Eagles overcame an early deficit to win 41-30 over the Daingerfield Tigers, with key touchdown runs by Brandon Howard and Grant Adcock — the team built its lead in the first half. The Tigers will try for their first win next week against Pleasant Grove while the Eagles host Newton for Homecoming.  Longview News-Journal
  • LeTourneau men’s soccer tied Belhaven 1-1 at Joyce Family Athletic Village on Thursday night. Sammy Shmorgun put LeTourneau ahead with a header, but Wesley Bloodworth tied the game late, and goalie Carson Gamble made four key saves — including stopping a penalty — as the Jackets prepare to host Millsaps today at 3:30 p.m.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Longview Lobo JV football team won 38 to 6 over Marshall on Thursday as Zha’Quorian Bush scored two rushing touchdowns and teammates added a 31 yard touchdown pass by Aaron Ashley. Other local teams posted wins + the Overton Mustangs beat Carlisle 22 to 8 while LONGVIEW A and LONGVIEW B also won their games, marking a busy day for high school football.  Longview News-Journal
  • Mount Enterprise Wildcats scored three touchdowns in the first minute—securing a 64-27 win over the Alba-Golden Panthers on Thursday. Kaegan Ash ran 68 yards on the opening play while Jase Webb caught the two-point conversion to help build the early lead.  Longview News-Journal
