- ➤ East Texas will see several community events this weekend as Downtown Live at Heritage Plaza in Longview will feature the Down Home Band on Sept. 5 with food trucks while a Historic Longview Farmers Market, a Cardboard Boat Race at Teague Park, a BBQ & Balloon Festival in Marshall, and concerts and hikes in Tyler and Longview are scheduled for Sept. 6 and Sept. 7—each event offering free admission and local attractions for families. - ➤ Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Longview will mark its 10th anniversary at 5 p.m. Saturday and the event will serve as a homecoming for many friends who helped start the church when two families began meeting for morning prayer in the summer of 2015—support from local pastors and members helped build its foundation. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Food truck operators in Longview say two new state laws will ease operating requirements and lower permit costs, and they expect more trucks to serve local events. A city official said the Food Truck Freedom Bill will shift permit oversight to the state while raising concerns that the department’s 40 inspectors may struggle to monitor over 12,000 trucks. - ➤ Four football games are set for Thursday at 7 p.m., with Daingerfield visiting Tatum at Eagle Stadium (483 Hill Street in Tatum), Waskom playing Hemphill at Hornet Stadium in Hemphill, Mt. Enterprise facing Alba-Golden at John Webb Stadium (1002 W. Rusk Street in Mt. Enterprise), and Huntington contesting Frankston at Jeff and Opal Austin Stadium in Frankston. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Yesterday, the Longview Lobo tennis team blanked Forney to move to 1-1 in district play with a 6-8 overall record and will visit Tyler Legacy on Tuesday. The Pine Tree Pirates won a 14-5 match over Henderson on Tuesday and improved to a 2-0 district record as they prepare to face Bullard on September 11. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The DCTF High School Rankings released on September 3 showed that Longview earned a 1-0 win in CLASS 6A while many schools in other divisions also recorded wins or losses, with some teams dropping out—highlighting a competitive start to the season. Longview News-Journal
