- ➤ The 76th Gregg County Fair starts Friday at the Longview Fairgrounds and will run from Sept. 5-13, featuring carnival rides, pig races and fried treats as the Longview Jaycees host the event. The fair includes the Miss Gregg County Pageant from 9-11 p.m. on Sept. 11 and charges $8 per person with free entry for young children, older adults and first responders. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Last Tuesday, the Longview Police Department hosted an early National Night Out kickoff party where families enjoyed free food, games, and dance contests while visiting vendor booths and learning about Kilgore College's services. The event promoted safety by uniting neighbors and law enforcement ahead of the official celebration in October — building a stronger community bond. KETK

- ➤ On Monday afternoon, the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office said that at Hugh Camp Memorial Park a 16-year-old Sabine student and her father were fatally shot by the victim's boyfriend—who was taken to a local hospital in serious condition with self-inflicted injuries—with no others hurt. - ➤ Library youth and teen programs resumed for the Fall/Winter season on September 2 and include Sensory Playtime on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., Discovery Kids STEAM Labs on Mondays at 4:30 p.m. at the library main branch, Babygarten Story Time on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., Early Learning Journeys Story Time on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Esports Game Day on Fridays at 4:15 p.m. at the Broughton Recreation Center — ages 13 to 17, and LEGO at the Library on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. City of Longview

- ➤ Carthage kept its No. 1 spot in the 6A/5A/4A poll after a 21-10 win at Kilgore — Malakoff held top ranking in the 3A/2A/TAPPS poll with a 33-14 victory over West Rusk, and voters shifted other teams in the rankings after the first week of games. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Carthage remains No.1 in the Class 6A, 5A, 4A poll after a 21 to 10 win at Kilgore, earning 13 of 14 first place votes and 208 points+Longview received the only other first place vote. Malakoff tops the 3A, 2A, TAPPS poll after a 33 to 14 win over West Rusk, earning seven first place votes and 195 points+teams in the remaining top five kept their preseason spots. - ➤ Kilgore’s Elle Litchenburg helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 6 to 4 record last week and was named the Longview News-Journal’s Volleyball Player of the Week after recording 186 assists, 34 kills, 71 digs, 18 aces and five blocks during games played Aug. 25 to 30—she also earned All-Tournament honors at the Hawkins Tournament with a strong performance in a loss to Beckville, tallying 25 assists, 10 digs, three aces and three kills. - ➤ White Oak's Jaxsen Ludlow and Mount Enterprise's Kaegan Ash earned Player of the Week honors from the News-Journal after leading their teams to 1-0 starts; Ludlow helped secure a 58-7 win while Ash posted key defensive stats in a 32-24 win—both teams will host home games on Friday.
