EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Educators say the new state ban on cellphones has improved classroom focus and face-to-face conversation as fewer than 1% of students had their devices confiscated in the first week—teachers now report a decrease in distractions and social drama. Longview News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ House lawmakers stalled Senate Bill 6, which would have banned THC products that contain more than 0.3% delta-9 THC—leaving hemp-derived products legal under current rules during the special session. Legislators may revisit the issue if they reconvene after the holiday as the session nears its end. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Francisco Garcia Casique, a 24-year-old barber who once lived in Longview, was deported to El Salvador and later returned to his home country as part of a government exchange, and his mother said he has rejoined his family and is healing from his experiences—he never had a criminal record.
