COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Medal of Honor recipients — the highest military honor — and active-duty troops will be honored on Sept. 13 at the 10th annual Texas Veterans’ Military Show in Bullard, which will start with a 9 a.m. parade featuring military vehicles and aircraft.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gregg County commissioners approved a $112.6 million budget for 2025-26 with a property tax rate set at 30.4331 cents per $100—a slight increase that raises a $200,000 home's tax by about $14—and allocated funds for capital projects such as road work and regional airport improvements while setting aside $5 million to reduce parking facility bonds, with the new rate effective Oct. 1.  Longview News-Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Texas Oncology in Longview now uses a new Halcyon System — with HyperSight — that makes radiation treatments much faster by targeting many cancer spots at once. The machine was added as part of a big remodel that cost millions and is expected to help doctors protect healthy tissue.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Triniti Jackson from Longview played well at the Lufkin Tournament — she helped the Lady Lobos win the Bronze Bracket championship and was named Player of the Week after recording 146 assists, 62 kills, 61 digs and 12 aces in games played from Aug. 18 to 23.  Longview News-Journal
  • A preseason poll of high school football teams ranked Carthage with a 15-1 record and Longview tied at a 12-3 record in the 6A/5A/4A division—local sports journalists from several news outlets published the rankings on Tuesday, August 26th. The poll also includes 3A/2A/TAPPS teams as regional schools prepare for the season.  Longview News-Journal
