ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Authorities responded to a fatal crash on State Highway 110 near County Road 2197 around 9:40 a.m.—one person died, another was taken to a nearby hospital, and the Whitehouse Volunteer Fire Department reported blocked roads and traffic rerouting. KETK
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Trademark Property Co.—in partnership with Dillard's—acquired Longview Mall and outlined plans to upgrade the property with new landscaping, lighting and seating. The company will consult city officials and community members before launching larger improvements while current employees remain in their roles. Longview News-Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Leverett’s Chapel Lions took a two-night trip to Galveston for their final preseason scrimmage against O’Connell College Prep, with strong plays from Chris Smith, David Salazar, and a long pass from Ethan Vaden. The team will start their season on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Greenville Christian. Kilgore News Herald
- ➤ Derek Abel and Chris Wheeler won the Texas Golf Association Four Ball Championship at Tempest Golf Club by birdieing four of the last five holes to secure a four-shot win at 20-under par. They had finished in the top five in past state events and played a tight match on Sunday. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Longview Lobo head coach and athletic director John King was diagnosed with mouth cancer on Monday but said he will continue coaching until his procedure takes place later this week—he hopes to avoid radiation. King is set to lead his 22nd season with a game against Lufkin on Friday at Lobo Stadium. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The week 1 East Texas football schedule runs from Aug. 28 to Aug. 30 with games set at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m and a Saturday contest at 6 p.m, featuring matchups such as Texas High at Tyler Legacy and Lindale at Hallsville. Local teams like Lufkin and Marshall also appear on the schedule at venues including Tyler Legacy and Hallsville. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Longview High School tennis lost an 11-8 match to Prosper Rock Hill over the weekend and is 5-7, with the team set to visit Rockwall today for District 10-6A play.
