- ➤ Food for the Soul has moved from Marshall to Longview at 1511 E. Marshall Ave and now serves down-home meals every day. 258 Resources will open a new office at 3549 Gilmer Road on Aug 30—home sales in July rose with 69 homes sold, a median price of $265,000, and 352 active listings. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kilgore College Rangerettes will debut a new performance line today at 7:30 p.m. at the Masters Gym on Elder Street as they introduce 34 freshmen and select five new officers — the show will feature a new field kick and jazz routine with free first come seating. KETK
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas Parks and Wildlife said its biologists confirmed several sightings of a black bear in Cherokee, Anderson, Panola and Rusk counties — residents are advised to keep a safe distance and secure attractants because the species is threatened. Kilgore News Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TxDOT announced that the westbound lane of I-20 from Exit 595 to SH 31 will be closed Sunday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.—crews will replace signage and motorists will follow a detour onto Loop 281 to SH 31. KETK
- ➤ Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller warned yesterday that some imported frozen shrimp from an Indonesian firm tested positive for cesium-137, so retailers must remove these products from sale. He urged Texans to choose wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast to keep food safe and support local fishermen. Kilgore News Herald

- ➤ Pine Tree held a scrimmage against Marshall at Pirate Stadium on August 21—practicing key plays before the season starts. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Multiple volleyball tournaments on Thursday showcased varied results as local teams faced off in close matches—at Dickinson the Lady Lobos went 2–1 with key plays from Triniti Jackson while teams in Kilgore, Tatum, White Oak, Sabine, New Diana and Beckville posted wins and losses with strong individual stats.
