BUSINESS NEWS

  • Annette Johnson, assistant principal at Pine Tree High School, was selected by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as a Region 7 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year and will compete for the state title. VeraBank’s donation drive raised over $350,000 for flood relief, while Traditions Health earned Superior Performer status and Komatsu hosted a manufacturing tour that Mayor Kristen Ishihara praised for its local impact.  Longview News-Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tyler Morning Telegraph and Longview News-Journal run a weekly photo page called Best Shots—readers are invited to email their favorite pictures with the photographer's name and a short description for a chance to be featured.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longview ISD has announced a $12.7 million project that will install solar panels at 10 schools—expected to save taxpayers $18.6 million and reduce utility bills by about $451,000 a year. The project, in partnership with Schneider Electric and funded by the 2024 bond, will produce over 6.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and cut 9.2 million pounds of emissions, with completion set for early 2026.  KETK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the City of Longview announced lane closures on Tryon Road, Old McCann Road, Fairmont Street, McCann Road and Springhill Parkway as crews from Cutler Repaving, Inc. begin asphalt overlays for about three weeks. Traffic will keep moving with alternating lane work and all lanes will reopen by 7 p.m. daily—drivers should expect delays.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Spring Hill played against Jefferson in a scrimmage at Panther Stadium on August 15— the teams used the game to practice and refine their strategies ahead of the upcoming season.  Longview News-Journal
