CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Longview police arrested driver Susana Granado (49) on Wednesday after a hit-and-run injured a student outside Clarence W. Bailey Elementary at approximately 7:34 a.m., and the student, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was released today. Longview News-Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Award-winning blues artist Wes Jeans+blues band Tommy Katona and Texas Flood will headline a benefit concert at Memorial City Hall in Marshall on Aug. 23 to support the Serenity Club recovery programs. He said the show+which supports local recovery efforts will mark his first performance at the renovated venue, offering fans a chance to enjoy homegrown blues. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ New Alto ISD Superintendent Derrick Conley greeted students and parents with high fives and mailed personalized notes on his first day yesterday—he brought 30 years of experience from Pine Tree ISD in Longview. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Opponents of the $7 billion Marvin Nichols Reservoir project in Northeast Texas scored a win when a meeting on August 13 in Pittsburg saw Region D agree with Region C to study piping water from Toledo Bend to Dallas—though the reservoir option will remain a future possibility. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ After more than two weeks without a quorum in Austin, East Texas lawmakers said they are ready to resume work on flood relief, redistricting, and groundwater issues—calling for consequences against absent colleagues. The next session is scheduled for Friday, and if quorum is not met, Governor Abbott will end this special session and call a new one. KETK
- ➤ Today, a local water board in Camp County met in Pittsburg and voted unanimously against the proposed Grand Saline Creek Reservoir that would have flooded thousands of acres for Canton—residents welcomed the decision while the board will send a letter of opposition to the TCEQ. KETK

- ➤ Former Lobo King, King, now with Georgia Tech, has spent his nights inside Bobby Dodd Stadium to study film and rest after long preseason work as he prepares for his NFL tryout and his 36th game on Aug. 29. - ➤ The Overton Mustangs, who earned back-to-back 10-win seasons under AD and head coach Scotty Laymance, will start their season on Aug. 29 at Alba-Golden while ranked No. 23 in state polls — they lost to Grapeland last season and expect tough games against Carlisle and other rivals — the team is ready to take on the challenge.
