- ➤ City officials said the white wooden house at 219 Clark St. in the Preachers Hill area is unsafe because its walls and roof are weak and it has health code issues, and the Fortner family must fix it by Sept. 15 to stop demolition. The 136-year-old home, built by a freed slave and known for its history, is raising funds through a GoFundMe so it can later serve as housing for young mothers or homeless people. - ➤ A motorcyclist died after running a red light that caused a crash with an SUV on Monday at around 6:01 p.m. in the 3700 block of West Loop 281 in Longview—police said the rider has not yet been identified. KETK
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Longview Police arrested 25-year-old Delany Rossum on Monday after executing a search warrant at her home in the 100th block of Hubbard Drive where officers recovered 29 grams of cocaine, 6 grams of methamphetamine, 3 grams of amphetamine and 2 grams of Xanax—she now faces charges for manufacturing, delivery and possession of controlled substances. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Longview ISD will install solar panels at 10 school campuses as part of a $12.7 million energy savings contract—Schneider Electric will install a 4.2 megawatt system on rooftops and open areas, with work set to finish by early 2026. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The Longview Public Library will host a drop-in photo session for homeschool students on August 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.—each student will receive one free 4x6 picture to pick up later and a gallery of photos will be shared on Facebook. City of Longview

- ➤ U.S. Rep. Jake Ellzey said he has secured almost $50 million to fund NASA’s balloon facility in Palestine for the 2026 fiscal year. The funding will keep the facility operating and protect jobs after workers were notified of potential layoffs—officials expect the bill to be considered in early September. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Tuesday's match ended when the Pine Tree Lady Pirates swept Grace Community 25-13, 25-12, 25-22 at the Pirate Center—Bryleigh Fagan and Khylee Briggs led with key kills. New head coach Kaitlyn Orren, a Longview High graduate who came back to lead the team, said the win shows the girls worked hard this summer and they will now prepare for the Central Heights Tournament this weekend.
