  • On Saturday, August 2, Longview’s Ingram Pool hosted a dog-only swim from 10 a.m. to noon—marking the city’s outdoor pool season close—while splash pads remain open for visitors.  Longview News-Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mint Innovation, a New Zealand firm, is set to begin work soon on its biorefining facility at 2101 E. Loop 281 in Longview that will recover precious metals from e-waste. Company representative Renee Jameson said procurement and construction activities will start in the coming month—local hiring plans are expected to be clear by fourth quarter.  Longview News-Journal
  • Trinity Tank Car will close the Jordan Valley Road plant on Sept. 30 as part of a restructuring plan that will lay off 156 workers. The company will invest in its Shady Brook Lane site between Longview and Hallsville—shifting some equipment there to produce specialty tank cars.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longview-area children received free backpacks, school supplies, shoes, haircuts and more at the Buckner Longview School Supply Train held Saturday at The ROC at First Baptist Church on East South Street, and families also enjoyed complimentary hot dogs while new and returning public school students were eligible to register.  Longview News-Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Shaniqua Davis—Gregg County Extension Agent—says gardeners should prepare their fall vegetable garden now by watering seeds well and adding a light mulch to warm soil, which helps seeds sprout faster. She recommends planting vegetables like southern peas by mid-August so they can be harvested before the first frost in mid-November.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Longview golfers Noah Summers and Jonathan Walgama earned spots in the 42nd Texas Mid-Amateur Tournament during a qualifying event on Tuesday at Willow Brook Country Club in Tyler. They were among six players to secure a berth for the tournament—scheduled for Sept. 5-7 at Champions Golf Club.  Longview News-Journal
  • Tyler Legacy teammates Nolan Hable and Simeon Garner earned honorable mention honors on Saturday when TSWA released its Class 6A All-State Baseball Team — the team was chosen based on nominations from coaches and media. Hable posted a 6-1 record with a 2.10 ERA and Garner hit .327 with four home runs — stats that underscore their strong contributions.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Pine Tree Lady Pirates resumed practice on August 1 at Pine Tree High School with Sandra Briones and her teammates training hard as they prepared for upcoming competitions — marking their return to action.  Longview News-Journal
