- ➤ A Longview man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for selling pills that led to a 17-year-old’s fatal fentanyl overdose on May 29th, 2024—court records show the pills, marked with those of generic oxycodone, contained fentanyl. KETK

- ➤ Rickey Smiley and Friends No Drama Weekend will have a comedy show on Saturday, August 30th at Maude Cobb Convention Center starting at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.—the event continues on Sunday with an outdoor music festival at the Longview Convention Complex lawn beginning at 5 p.m. where ticket stubs from Saturday provide free entry while others pay $20. - ➤ On Tuesday, Jacksonville High School cheerleaders and marching band welcomed guests at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center in Tyler for the 19th Annual East Texas Kick-Off Luncheon. Former standout Luke McCown praised local football pride—he expressed excitement over coach Montey Stevenson's plans for the school team. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The Sherman Shadowcats edged the TimberHogs 7-5 Tuesday as Erick Ballenilla & Ismael Bencosme homered and Luis Castillo drove in three runs, helping the team lock up a playoff spot and improve to 29-28 while the TimberHogs fell to 17-36. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Kilgore College student-athletes were recognized by the NJCAA when 15 students were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Team and 30 earned Region 14 honors—given to those who completed at least 24 credit hours with a 3.25 GPA and played varsity sports.
