  • Longview Exhibit Center will host the Hot Tub & Swim Spa Expo from August 1—3, where over 40 hot tubs and swim spas from five big brands are shown with big discounts and free entry. Financing is available with approved credit.  City of Longview
  • The Longview Fire Department will host a free event tomorrow at (411 American Legion Boulevard) from (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) to welcome new fire chief Greg Grimes who plans to build strong community ties.  KETK

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Kilgore Economic Development Corporation earned its third consecutive Award of Excellence from BREI at the 2025 Annual Conference in Cheyenne—recognizing its role in KeepRite Refrigeration's expansion into Synergy Park. Executive Director Lisa Denton said the win highlights strong regional collaboration with Longview Economic Development Corporation—reinforcing a focus on business retention.  Kilgore News Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KETK has compiled back-to-school start dates for East Texas districts, noting that Longview schools will reopen on Aug. 11—public and private schools in the region will start between Aug. 4 and Sept. 2.  KETK

HEALTH NEWS

  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in Henderson for the new 24/7 CHRISTUS emergency center, a 12,500-square-foot facility located south of Wylie Elementary on U.S. Highway 259. The center will open to the public at 7 a.m. on Thursday and is set to provide full-service emergency care with board-certified physicians — and experienced nurses.  KETK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Longview Lobo quarterback Haynes King, now at Georgia Tech, was named to the preseason Maxwell Award watch list—he finished last season with 41 touchdown passes and key records despite missing two games due to a shoulder injury. UTSA redshirt junior quarterback Owen McCown also earned a spot on the watch list—his strong performances last year included record-setting passing and rushing numbers.  Longview News-Journal
  • Carson Wallace from Harleton was named Player of the Year on the Blue Bell/Sports Writers Association Class 2A all-state baseball team after he won 11 games and lost 2 with a very low earned run average and threw two no-hit games in the playoffs; he also batted well while teammate Gage Shirts made the first team and Centerville’s Demond Denman was honored with Coach of the Year (TSWA voting came from coaches and media nominations).  Longview News-Journal
  • Sixteen-year-old Ryan Davis of Waskom qualified for the ATF Paranational Championships in Eugene from July 31 to August 4 in wheelchair track and will represent East Texas—he overcame a childhood spinal injury from a car accident to excel in adaptive sports. Trained by top coaches, Davis aims to raise awareness of the sport and inspire others to see that a disability can lead to new abilities.  Kilgore News Herald
