CRIME NEWS

  • Smith County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 15-year-old Abby Grace Morales, who was last seen on Saturday at 11 p.m. leaving her home on County Road 173 in Bullard possibly by Uber—she is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes and appears in video footage; anyone with information is urged to call 903-566-6600.  KETK

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Texas Shakespeare Festival is nearing its historic 40th season finale as it holds two Talent Showcase performances today—featuring cast songs, dances and musical acts from Broadway. Final performances of Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Steel Magnolias, Kiss Me Kate and The Princess and The Players will run from Thursday through Sunday—tickets are available by phone or email.  Kilgore News Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • East Texas schools are putting new rules in place after the Texas House & Senate passed a bill banning cell phones, smart watches, and tablets during school hours, with many districts setting their policies for the 2025-2026 school year. Longview ISD has already revealed its guidelines while several districts are still reviewing their policies.  KETK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The indoor pool at Paula Martin Jones Recreation Center in Longview remained closed after leaks and hairline cracks were found—contractor Sunbelt Pools recommended replacing the gutter system while Parks and Recreation Director John Albertson said cost estimates were not available due to an unstable steel market.  Longview News-Journal

  • Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King, a former Longview Lobo, begins his final preseason camp today as he prepares for his last college season and works to improve his game for an NFL shot. He aims to break key passing records and lead his team through a season filled with new challenges — a final dance that could shape his professional future.  Longview News-Journal
  • Under fourth-year head coach Alison Williams—LeTourneau volleyball released its 30-match schedule for the 2025 season, featuring three early invitationals in Atlanta and 16 SCAC games with home matches free to attend. The team enters its first SCAC season after 27 years in the ASC—facing top opponents like Emory beginning Aug. 29.  Longview News-Journal
  • Union Hill’s E.J. Mowery earned first-team honors at shortstop on the TSWA Class A All-State Baseball Team for 2025—he finished with a .721 average and 20 stolen bases—and he was named following nominations from coaches and media statewide.  Longview News-Journal
