- ➤ Dogs will compete in the Longview Kennel Club AKC Dog Show at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday, with free admission for the public. A dog diving contest will also take place at the Agricultural Pavilion—from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday—to showcase high-flying canines for local audiences. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Wanda’s Kountry Korner, a 50‑year-old East Texas eatery known for its hamburgers, closed and is now for sale for $5.5 million at 15229 W. FM 968 between Longview and Hallsville, a site built in 1974 that once included an RV park and convenience store. McDonald’s received approval for a drive‑thru at its new location near Gilmer & Spring Hill roads, a public pool at Stamper Park will break ground on Aug. 5 at 9 a.m., and a Walmart on Estes Parkway will begin $1.1 million equipment upgrades in September. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Mia Gage, a 17-year-old from Gilmer — who started pageants at age 4 — will be crowned the 88th queen of the East Texas Yamboree in October after a two-week fundraising contest among the contestants. She is an incoming senior at Gilmer High, the first queen in her family and one of the few Hispanic winners, and she will meet local children and lead events at the four-day festival that draws about 100,000 people each year. - ➤ Panola College announced Robert Rollinson as the new head coach of the men's basketball team. He served as an assistant during the season when the team won the Region XIV Championship and made a Final Four appearance—his hiring follows former coach Joe Kuligoski’s move to Sam Houston State University. - ➤ Air guns once fired small BBs— today they use compressed gas to shoot projectiles up to .50 caliber for hunting and target practice. Texas Parks and Wildlife rules set minimum requirements for projectile size and energy when pursuing game. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ LeTourneau named Whitney Hubeek as the full-time assistant coach for its softball team on July 25—she spent two years at Weatherford High School and has over ten years of coaching experience. The YellowJackets baseball and tennis teams also earned academic honors this season—garnering Team Academic Excellence, ITA All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete awards. Longview News-Journal
