- ➤ This weekend, free events in Longview and nearby offer activities for all, including a Kennel Club dog show at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center from July 25–27, dog obedience trials and mobile dock diving competitions at local venues, a science show by Dr. Jim Pennington on July 25 at World of Wonders, a back-to-school bash on July 26 by Christus Good Shepherd Health System, and 'Mary Poppins' performances at ArtsView Children’s Theater. - ➤ The Longview Public Library wrapped up its Summer Reading Club on Wednesday with an End of Summer Party at Broughton Park where children enjoyed a foam pit and free school supplies. The last day to redeem club prizes is July 30. Longview News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Longview city council did not move forward with a revised amphitheater plan because details on the entertainment district and financing remain uncertain—Mayor Ishihara said the risks make it financially unwise. Developers said they will not bring the project back while a former mayor expressed disappointment with the decision. Longview News-Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Planned Parenthood’s Tyler facility closed its physical office on July 17 at 601 Turtle Creek Drive—now it offers only virtual care through telehealth appointments Monday-Friday to continue reproductive health services. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Residents near the Eastman Chemical Company plant in Longview filed a 30 page federal lawsuit claiming that long term exposure to ethylene oxide has led to multiple cancer diagnoses in several neighbors, including four breast cancer survivors who have lived nearby for decades. The suit alleges negligence regarding the plant’s dangerous emissions and gives Eastman until Sept. 4 to respond. KETK

SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ LeTourneau track and field athletes junior Victoria Wilson and sophomore Calvin Mason earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors as their teams were selected to the All-Academic Team for 2024-25. The women’s team recorded a record 3.60 GPA and the men’s team had a 3.24 GPA (above the required 3.10) while Wilson and Mason set new program marks. Longview News-Journal
