  • McDonald's is planning to open a restaurant with a drive-thru window in the Spring Hill area at the southeast corner of Gilmer and Spring Hill roads. The Longview City Council will consider awarding a specific use permit on Thursday for the 1.22-acre project owned by Henson and Wallin Ventures—key details for the new eatery.  Longview News-Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Longview police arrested 59-year-old Michael Duane Jones Monday after he allegedly shot a woman at the Palace Inn Motel on East Marshall Avenue Sunday night—officers responded at 10:27 p.m. and took the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  KETK
  • Longview Police Department is searching for Irianna Powell, a 22-year-old woman last seen on the 400 block of Tammy Lynn Drive in Longview, described as 5'6" tall with black hair, brown eyes, and weighing about 190 pounds; anyone with information is asked to call (903-237-1199).  KETK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thirteen LeTourneau student-athletes earned ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors when the conference unveiled its 2024-25 awards last Thursday, recognizing those who maintained a (3.20 GPA or higher) while playing key roles on their teams, with Kaiden Schneider of men's golf earning his second honor after returning from injury.  Longview News-Journal

  • On July 14, the Longview Fire Department held a ceremony to honor Jack McGaughey for enlisting in the U.S. Navy after serving in the Marine Corps and working as a paramedic with the department. Navy Commander Blaine Cardinale+ a friend and colleague+ administered his oath and said the day was very memorable.  KETK

  • On Sunday, the Texarkana Rhinos built an early lead and won 13-6 over the Piney Woods TimberHogs while Elijah Selby and Cooper Markle drove the team with seven hits and nine RBI — the win improved the Rhinos to 16-30 as the TimberHogs fell to 13-33.  Longview News-Journal
  • Former Lobo quarterback Haynes King — now with Georgia Tech — has been nominated for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his community service and leadership. King, who helped lead Longview to its first state championship in 81 years, will join his team when the season begins on Aug. 29.  Longview News-Journal
