- ➤ Putt-Putt Golf and Games in Longview will transfer to new owners on Aug. 29—broker Lindsey Farnham said the new owners plan to rename and update the business with a reopening expected early 2026. Other business updates include a rezone approval that clears the way for a QuickTrip on McCann Road and Loop 281 and Madea’s Famous Kitchen moving to Gilmer Road with two new Blazin Bird restaurant locations opening nearby. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Kilgore man was arrested on suspicion of arson after he intentionally set a fire at a Longview apartment on July 3 at 5:15 p.m.+ the blaze caused $50,000 in damage without injuries and he is now held on a $100,000 bond in Gregg County Jail. Kilgore News Herald
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Eastman Chemical Co. celebrates 75 years of its East Texas operations with an exhibit at the Gregg County Historical Museum that shows uniforms, photos of its plant near Longview and products used in daily life — highlighting the company’s long local history. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with admission fees of $5 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Kilgore Public Library will offer a youth financial training course on July 30 presented by East Texas Professional Credit Union for students aged 12 through 22.
