Good morning, Longview.

Longview ISD lost $923,465 in federal funding when grants were withheld on July 1—cuts that will reduce support for teacher development, English language programs, and academic help.

The loss comes just weeks before the new school year and may limit services for both students and teachers.

Quitman resident Bobby Cole, a rancher and retired firefighter, announced his 2026 run for governor and said he will fight for working people and defend personal freedoms.

He spoke at a rally near Longview Mall on Thursday and detailed plans to improve public schools, expand Medicaid, lower property taxes, and support gun rights—stressing that both major parties have neglected the working class.

Four East Texas football recruits earned spots on the Rivals300 for the Class of 2027; Palestine Westwood quarterback Kavian Bryant was ranked No. 40 nationally—leading a group that includes Tyler High receiver Trey Haralson, Gilmer offensive lineman Ismael Camara, and Tyler High running back Cadarius McMiller. They received offers from many Division I programs and additional top prospect DeMarrion Johnson was also named among Texas’ leading recruits.

Former Kilgore College player Lane Johnson led the eighth annual OL Masterminds summit at The Cosm last week, where nearly 200 offensive linemen from high school to the NFL shared blocking techniques and discussed mental health.

The two-day event, which grew from 27 players, gave many a chance to have one-on-one talks with NFL veterans — a move Johnson says will help guide their future on and off the field.

Former Mineola High School standout Dawson Pendergrass had an impressive career with the Yellowjackets and now plays for Baylor University where he earned praise for his speed and durability.

Entering his third season and teaming with Bryson Washington, he will face Auburn in the season opener on Aug. 29—an opportunity to strengthen the Bears' running attack.
