Buckner International launched its annual Shoes for Orphan Souls drive in Longview and has asked local organizations to register as drop off spots for new socks and closed-toe shoes.

The drive runs from June 30 to July 25 and donated items will be given to vulnerable children at Buckner’s School Supply Train on Aug. 2 — sponsored by 89.5 KVNE.

At the annual meeting in January, the Chamber hosted guest speaker Jeff Henderson whose message 'Know What You're FOR' led members to share feedback and start a new strategic planning process—intensive sessions in April, May, and June helped shape a mission to support local businesses and free enterprise in our community. The board’s plan now sets a clear course for the Chamber to advance business and create a thriving Longview.

AAA Texas said gas prices are at their lowest in Texas since 2021—drivers in Amarillo pay an average of $2.62 per gallon while prices near Dallas-Fort Worth average $2.95, which is 35 cents lower than last year despite a small increase from last week.

The national average is now $3.17 per gallon, 37 cents lower than last year, easing costs for summer travel.
